There are many foods that we can consume on a regular basis that could possibly help reduce the risk of heart disease by 75 percent or more. Since heart disease is the number 1 killer in women, it would benefit us to try and add more of these foods to our healthy eating life style.
* Almonds: Almonds are packed with fiber and monounsaturated fat as well as vitamin E which are an antioxidant. According to the Food and Drug Administration, 1.5 ounces of almonds per day may be enough to reduce the risk of heart disease.
* Vegetables: Vegetables that are connected with heart health are lycopene-rich tomatoes and leafy greens such as kale or spinach. These foods have powerful antioxidants and soluble and unsoluble fiber. A serving of vegetables is equal to one cup of raw, leafy vegetables; a half a cup of fresh, frozen or canned vegetables; or three fourths cup 100 percent vegetable juice.
* Fruit: It’s important to include a variety of fruits into your daily diet. Bright colored berries are high in polyphenols, citrus fruits are packed with vitamin C, and apples have an antioxidant called quercetin. A serving of fruit is equal to one medium size piece of fruit; a half a cup of fresh, frozen or canned fruit; three fourths cup of 100 percent fruit juice; or one quarter cup dried fruit.
* Garlic: Garlic lowers total cholesterol and blood fat levels which help to prevent clogged arteries.

Best Way To Lose Weight-Keep It Off

The question of the best way to lose weight varies from person to person. That’s because everybody is different, and what works for somebody else, may not be all that effective for you. However, it’s all about calories. If two people burn more calories than they take in, following reasonable guidelines, they should both lose weight; it’s just that they probably won’t lose the same amount, or lose it at the same rate.

Then there is also the fact that people already have their own habits, attitudes and level of health. This will make how you respond to a particular diet different from the way others may respond. It will also determine, to a large extent, how well you stick to the details of whichever diet you choose as your best way to lose weight.

You need to look at any diet carefully before you decide to try it. A lot of diets rely on a gimmick of some kind or another to hook people in. A gimmick is there for two reasons. First, it’s an attempt to make it unique; to suggest that it’s something you haven’t tried before, but could really work…this time. Second, gimmicks are designed to hide the boring truth about weight loss. That truth is that the only way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you take in. But let’s face it, a diet that just said that wouldn’t sell, regardless of how effective it was.

Okay, there are a lot of fad diets out there, but there are also a lot of diets based on sound nutrition, too. Those are the diets you should be choosing from. Look into them to see if they let you eat a wide variety of foods, as that’s always a sure sign of a healthy diet. Some diets work by severely reducing certain foods; the low-carb diets, for example. And it’s true that you could lose weight by following them, but weight is only one small part of the bigger health picture. While the idea of eating all the meat and fat you like may sound appealing, the risk of clogged arteries, high cholesterol and heart disease are not appealing.

When you are comparing diet plans, you also need to be realistic. You know what foods you like, which ones you can tolerate, and which ones you don’t like at all. If the diet is heavy on the foods you don’t like, then it’s probably a good idea to move on to one that you’ll be able to stick to. In other words, don’t let the promises of a diet plan convince you that you will somehow start liking foods you can’t stand.

Instead, find a diet that focuses on the foods you love. There is a wide variety of diet plans, so you can be sure there is one that is the best way to lose weight for you. It may take a bit of searching, or you may get lucky and find one right away. Either way, take advantage of it as soon as you find it…once you start seeing positive results, you’ll be glad you did.

How Food Affects Health And Weight

There are many things in a person’s life that have a direct impact on their overall health or even specific aspects of their health. One thing that has a serious impact on a person’s health is how they eat.

Good nutrition is a very important part of staying healthy. Healthy food choices mean a healthier body. There are a couple different reasons for this. For one thing if a person consumes large amounts of healthy foods such as fruits, vegetables and lean meats their bodies get an abundance of many important vitamins, minerals and nutrients.

Another reason that eating healthy keeps a person in good health is not because of what these foods contain but rather what they don’t. For example many prepackaged and processed foods contain large amounts of fats and hydrogenated oils. These are things that not only will cause a person to gain weight but they can lead to issues such as clogged arteries and various other heart problems as well.

Salt is another thing that should be used in moderation. Yes, salt makes our food taste good and give it flavor but it also has its negative points too. One such negative issue that often occurs from the excessive use of salt is high blood pressure. This is especially true if you are already prone to develop this condition due to family history or other risk factors. It is for this reason that there are so many salt free options for seasoning and flavoring food. Many of these taste even better than if salt was used and contain little or no salt.

Sugar is another food that can wreak havoc with a person’s body. While it may be true that a certain amount of sugar is needed to fuel the body, too much can be a very bad thing. Sugar can be particularly dangerous to someone who has been diagnosed with diabetes. For people such as this the amount of sugar which is consumed must be monitored very carefully. Natural sugar such as that found in fruits and other healthy foods is always a much better choice than adding sugar to other types of foods.

Although it may seem that there are a lot of foods that a person should steer clear of or at least limit their intake of there are also a lot of foods that are good to eat and taste just as good as well. For instance fruits such as strawberries, grapes, apples and oranges make great snacks that are much healthier than salty potato chips or super sweet candy bars.

As you can see there are many ways a person can control their health simply by watching what they eat. The healthier the food choices that you make the better your health will be as a result. It is important to remember that eating healthy does not have to taste bad; there are many healthy foods that taste really good too.
