Getting A Healthy Breakfast

Getting A Healthy Breakfast
Peter Garant

Breakfast, like any other meal of the day, needs proper
planning. No longer is it planned independently of the other
meals. The three meals should be planned as a unit and balanced
against the daily body requirement with enough allowance for
good health. A light breakfast must necessarily be followed be a
substantial meal, while a heavy breakfast must be followed by a
light lunch. If both breakfast and lunch are light, then a heavy
dinner is needed. Like all meals, breakfast must be planned to
include food nutrients not provided for or inadequately found in
the two other meals to complete the essential body requirements
for the day. Too often, skimpy breakfasts are blamed in lack of
time. Considering that one-fourth to one-third of the day’s
requirements is served at breakfast, the need for planning ahead
is doubly justified. Breakfast mean to break the fast of several
hours. The factors affecting the nature of the breakfast menu
will depend upon age, sex, weight, health, and kind of
activities of the individual family members. Other factors to
consider are the amount of time allotted for its preparation by
one or several family members, or by a hired helper and how
light, moderate, or heavy other meals are intended to be. Family
custom may have to contend with all of these, although strictly
speaking, this must not prevail upon the more important factors.
Breakfast should always include a raw fruit because this
contains more vitamins and minerals than cooked ones. Fresh ripe
fruits have a rich mellow aroma that can stimulate even the most
delicate appetite. It should be taken as the first course of the
meal for the same reason. Fresh eggs are good breakfast food
because they are rich in complete protein, fat, iron, calcium,
phosphorus, vitamins A & B, and niacin. They are also easy to
prepare and digest. They can be fried, poached, soft-cooked,
hard-cooked, scrambled, or prepared as an omelet. Rice and other
cereals are the main fuel contributors in breakfast. Rice is
cooked plain or sauted in small amount of fat and garlic. Corn
broiled and buttered is a practical American way that can be
adopted anywhere where corn is available. Milk is the almost
complete food and is welcome at any meal. At breakfast, milk is
popular as a beverage or taken with coffee, chocolate, oatmeal,
and other cereals. Milk should be bought from sanitary and
reliable sources. Fresh milk is safer if pasteurized before
serving. Breakfast breads may be in the form of rolls, buns,
loafbread, biscuits, waffles, or hot cakes. Breads can be
toasted and served with butter or fruit jam like strawberry.
Waffles, hotcakes, and French toast are good for heavy and
substantial breakfast. Rolls with butter and jam, jelly, or
marmalade are suitable for heavy breakfast, too, especially if
taken with a heavy protein dish and chocolate.

Magical Weight Loss Foods

When all is said and done there is still only one way to lose weight. You have to burn off more calories than you take in. Exercise is an important part of that equation, but we are going to take a look at some foods that can help you achieve your weight loss goals.

As a general rule weight loss foods are those that make you feel fuller without adding all kinds of empty calories. Adding these foods to your diet on a regular basis will help you to lose weight faster. Here are some of the top contenders.

Beans are at the top of list for several reasons. They come in many varieties, meaning they’re versatile and you don’t have to get bored eating them every day. They are low in fat, but very satisfying. They are packed with protein. And they contain plenty of fiber, which not only adds to how full you feel, but also reduces your risk for several diseases. The only thing you have to watch out for are re fried beans that have extra fat added, and canned beans that are too high in sodium. But you’ll be doing yourself a tasty favor by eating any variety of dried beans.

Whole grains. There’s one change you can make in your diet that’s very easy: stop eating refined grains. The “refining” process gets rid of most of the good stuff, making them so void of nutrition that they actually have to re-add nutrients to make the process complete. All of that so our bread and rice can be pure white. To be blunt, it’s ridiculous. Start eating whole grains to get the full nutrition nature put there in the first place.

Olive oil (or any other oil high in monounsaturated fat). Surprised? Yes, it still has many calories as any other kind of fat (9 calories per gram) but fat adds to the feeling of fullness. It also adds a nice flavor to many different foods. Besides olive oil is one of the healthiest fats that you can. So, while it may seem to be a lot of calories up front, the amount of calories you eat later will actually go down because it’s so satisfying.

Oatmeal is another one of the best weight loss foods out there. A few years ago it got some good press for being able to reduce cholesterol. It’s true, it is. But did you know that it has about the same amount of soluble and insoluble fiber? Again, it makes you feel fuller and is good for your overall health. Plus, it’s low in calories. Most people think of oatmeal as a breakfast food, but it has a flavor that works well with many different foods. Therefore, it can be incorporated into any number of dishes throughout the day.

There are many more weight loss foods, no question about it. But the four mentioned above will give you a great start on losing weight. Keep trying to reduce the bad foods, and increase the good ones and your waistline and health will be the better for it.

Lose Weight Quickly Eat Your Breakfast

Studies have shown that people who wake up every morning and eat breakfast weigh less than those who consistently start their day without proper fuel for their bodies. If you want to lose weight quickly, then you must get into a proper routine. Wake up, start the day with a glass of water, and then eat a nutritious breakfast before heading out the door.

But how can you lose weight quickly if you start to eat breakfast? You have probably been told time and time again that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Your parents and your school teachers were all telling you the truth. It is!

The word breakfast means break the fast. When you sleep, you are fasting for a period of anywhere from seven to ten hours. Once you wake, you need to give your body the necessary fuel. Think of it in comparison to a car. It won’t run without gas, right?

Your body is the same way. You need to feed it and by so doing, you can lose weight quickly. Not only will this allow you to maintain a stable healthy weight, but eating breakfast also allows the body to feel full and it promotes proper metabolic function. All of this is crucial to starting the day off right as it lends itself to giving you the energy and brain power you need to accomplish what you need to do in the run of a busy day.

Another important point in relation to weight is that individuals who eat breakfast consistently are much less likely to overeat throughout the day, eat late at night or to snack on unhealthy foods unnecessarily.

What makes a nutritious breakfast is the next question. In order to remember what to eat, you need to think eat 1-2-3 energy. You require one serving of protein, two servings of fruit, and three servings of grain. Excellent choices of protein include eggs, low fat milk, peanut butter, yogurt and cheese.

Fruit ensures that you start the day with the vitamins, minerals and carbohydrates that you need. Fruit also helps to stave off dehydration and it prevents constipation from setting in. Oatmeal is an excellent breakfast food for those looking to lose weight. Oatmeal is a bulk dense food that slows down the digestive process, thereby making it possible for a person to feel fuller for a longer span of time. Oatmeal is also excellent for soaking up cholesterol in the blood stream.

Fiber is also important as a means of losing weight quickly. Fiber should be an important part of breakfast. Fiber keeps the digestive system running smoothly and helps the bowels to do their job. Choose high fiber cereal and whole grain breads. It is also best to choose fresh fruit over fruit juice. If fresh fruit is pricey, buy frozen fruit. Steer clear of canned fruit as these are loaded with sugar. Wheat germ and flax meal can be sprinkled over cereal, oatmeal or yogurt for an extra helping of fiber.

An excellent choice for breakfast would be to eat two slices of whole grain bread with a tablespoon of peanut butter and a glass of orange juice. On a day that you are in a rush, health can still be a priority. Choose a bowl of high fiber cereal or oatmeal, a banana and a glass of skim or one percent milk.

You need to look at your eating habits carefully. If breakfast is not important to you, then it is time to readjust your priorities, so you can lose weight quickly.
